Maintaining a well-functioning plumbing system is often a neglected task. Keeping your system working as it should and your system going without failure, requires routine maintenance. The Marlin Protection Plan provides these necessary services for homes and businesses alike. Our annual checkup provides your home or office with the necessary checks in a wide variety of areas. These areas include, but are not limited to: Water heaters, kitchen & bath faucets, toilets and water pressure regulators. To ensure the safety of your home or office we conduct a very comprehensive assessment as opposed to just going through a basic checklist. We review all vital areas of the system to ensure that your plumbing is performing up to par. When you sign up for our maintenance plan you can rest assured that your plumbing system will function as intended and at the same time, mitigate chances for future failures or leaks.

Below is a list of the services we provide and an in-depth list of individual jobs we will perform for each plumbing category.

Plumbing maintenance services provided:

Water Heater

What We Do For You

  • Check the Burner – The burner provides direct heat to your water. We make sure it is getting the appropriate amount of oil or gas so it can heat the water effectively. Or if it is an electric water heater, we’ll check to make sure the heating element is working correctly.
  • Check Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve – The temperature and pressure (or T&P) valve is designed to relieve water pressure if it gets too high. Due to thermal expansion of water, this can happen if the water gets too hot. Maintaining this valve will ensure that your pipes are free from the threat of rupturing due to high pressure.
  • Check the Vent Assembly – An incorrect or poorly installed vent assembly can release carbon monoxide into your home. This can be harmful and even deadly. We thoroughly inspect this component of your water heater to make sure the placement and positioning of your vents are correct and working as they should.
  • If Electric: Check the Thermostat Settings & Re-adjust – Generally electric water heaters will have two thermostats to control two heating elements (an upper and a lower). If one or both are not working correctly, it can cause problems. We check both and readjust if needed.
  • Ensure Water Heater is Working Efficiently – By allowing us to perform routine maintenance on your water heater, not only will it extend the life it but it will also keep it working at its peak efficiency for the life of it.

Why We Do It

  • Maintains the Warranty on Many Water Heaters – Many water heater warranties require regular maintenance be performed and our yearly service satisfies such requirements. Using our yearly service not only ensures any warranties stay intact, it also maintains the stability of your water heater throughout the course of the year.
  • Helps Your Water Heater Operate at Peak Efficiency – Running your water heater at peak efficiency is good for the unit as well as the environment.
  • Saves on Your Utility Bill – When your water heater is working properly and efficiently, it can reduce the number of times it turns on and off, thus saving you money on your monthly utility bill.
  • Ensures Safety – There are many components to a water heater that need to work correctly to keep it functioning safely and without issue. Most don’t think about a water heater being a potential hazard when in fact can be very dangerous if one of the components fails or is not working properly. Our protection plan will keep the routine maintenance up and look for any possible problems to keep it running safely.

Kitchen & Bath Faucets

What We Do For You

  • Check Plumbing Fixtures for Leaks & Corrosion – Water leaks are never welcome as they can cause damage to your cabinetry, ceilings, walls, floors and furniture. Corroded pipes lose strength and can burst also causing water damage issues in addition to corrosion and rust getting into the water you use in your house. Early detection is key in helping prevent either from happening.
  • Grease Stems, Cartridges and Rubber Seals – We use the proper and appropriate amount of lubricant to ensure smooth operation and prevent leaks at the valves.
  • Clean the Aerators on All Faucets – Aerators are the little mesh screens that are responsible for providing a controlled stream of water out of your faucets. If there is build-up on them, splashes and leaks down the faucet can occur as well as improper water flow.

Why We Do It

  • Remove Foreign Materials – Corrosion and other foreign substances can pollute your water which can be harmful if ingested or cause irritation to your skin.
  • Guarantees Proper Water Flow – Keeping your water flowing at the proper rate for each faucet helps the faucet perform as it was designed. In some cases, it can even aid in increasing water pressure to desirable levels.
  • Extend the Life of Your Faucets – By being proactive and keeping leaks and corrosion at bay, your faucets will stand the test of time.
  • Save Money – Our maintenance program will reduce the occurrence or need to replace your kitchen and bath faucets, thus saving money on costly replacements.

Toilets

What We Do For You

  • Inspect the Toilet for Leaks & Proper Flushing Action – This helps ensure that your tank is operating at the correct water capacity and reduces poor performance or malfunctions.
  • Check and Adjust Ballcock – The ballcock is a mechanism that fills the water tank of the toilet while preventing overflow and backflow. We make sure that it is operating smoothly to keep the water level inside at the correct level.
  • Check flapper for Proper Seal – The flapper is a rubber part that seals water into the tank or allowing the tank to empty when opened. If it has any dirt or debris on it, it can prevent the seal from seating properly thereby keeping your toilet constantly running. We make sure that your flapper is clean and sealing as intended.
  • Check and Adjust All Parts to Manufacturer Specifications – Sometimes toilet parts can come loose or jam in the process of a flush. We make sure that all parts are interacting and working together per the manufacturer specifications.

Why We Do It

  • Reduce Water Consumption – The process of flushing and filling a toilet can be costly if leaks are present or parts are not working correctly. By doing our service, we’ll help reduce your water consumption by making sure the toilet is utilizing water efficiently.
  • Saves Money – This goes hand in hand with water consumption. A toilet that is performing efficiently helps reduce your monthly water bill.
  • Ensures Proper Flushing Action – Proper water movement and flushing action is necessary to move solid waste down the drain pipe.

Water Pressure Regulator

What We Do For You

  • Check the Water Pressure on the Incoming Water Line – Water coming into the house from the main water line can often have too much pressure. We’ll check the pressure and make sure the regulator is appropriately working.
  • Adjust the Regulator (for homes that have these) – The water pressure regulator is responsible for reducing high water pressure from the main water line to safe levels so that it doesn’t damage any internal plumbing or faucets inside your house.
  • Check for Damage to the Water Heater, Fixtures or Pipes – If a water pressure valve is not working correctly we need to check for existing damage to these components caused by high water pressure or water hammering.

Why We Do It

  • Reduces Wear and Tear on Your Plumbing Fixtures – Our assessment of this part helps make sure that your pressurized plumbing fixtures are safe from unnecessary damage.
  • Extends Life of Water Heater and Fixtures – Helps extend the life of your water heater and fixtures – When plumbing fixtures are exposed to and operating within their intended water pressures, they will work for a very long time.

Safety Check

What We Do For You

  • Walk Through – Your service technician walks you through the house inspecting your plumbing system and tightens loose faucet handles, tightens packing nuts and repairs other minor areas during the inspection process.
  • Shut Off Valves Tested – Each emergency shut-off under the sinks, toilets, water heater and main water shut-off are tested to ensure they will operate in case of an emergency. Oftentimes these independent shut-off valves get stuck and people don’t know that until they need it. This check not only finds any stuck valves, but the service of testing them will likely prevent them from getting stuck in the future.
  • Gas Connectors & Exposed Piping Check – Gas connectors are inspected visually, along with exposed piping. This check helps notify us of any problems and can help us locate and repair a minor issue before it becomes a major one.
  • Main Shut Off Valves (Water & Gas) – You are shown where your emergency water shut-off valve is located along with emergency gas shut off. Many may not realize where their main shut-off valves are for their water and/or gas. It is important to locate them and understand how to operate each. We will also provide a diagram of your house indicating where they are. This diagram can be posted where all your family members can see it in case of emergency.
